Susan and Chris and I are the first to arrive in New Orleans. Susan and I spent the day wandering around the French Quarter, checking out the Mississippi, and getting our bearings. We had to pick up Chris from the airport in the evening, and took scenic routes to and from. It's stunning - once we turned off the main roads and touristy areas, the storm damage is quite visible. These neighborhoods, which were once just poor, look like ghost towns.

Super tired after a long, full day. We're really excited to get to orientation tomorrow, especially after talking to a Tulane law student (and NOLA native) all night about just how deeply this storm still affects the lives of those who live here.

Forty-three Brooklyn Law School students will spend their spring break volunteering in and around the Gulf Coast as part of the Student Hurricane Network. These are their stories.
